Dr. Martinson is Professor of German Studies. He was instrumental in helping to establish the Joint Ph.D. Program in Transcultural German Studies between the University of Arizona and Leipzig University. Martinson’s publications include numerous articles and books on modern German literature and culture from the time of the Reformation to the early 21st Century. His most recent book is titled, Projects of Enlightenment: The Work of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing. Cultural, Intercultural, and Transcultural Perspectives (Heidelberg: Synchron, 2003). He is presently working on a book on the “PK” (pastor’s kid), Friedrich Nietzsche. Dr. Martinson teaches RELI 379 - Religion in German Culture.
Introduction to major cultural figures of German speaking countries who have seen, imagined, or experienced what role religion may or can play in human life. Taught in English.
